Youth Programs

Summer Food Service Program: The Summer Food Service Program is a program of the United States Department of Agriculture and is sponsored by Community Action.  Community Action offers the program out of Sunnyside Elementary School in Minot during the months of June, July and August.  The program assists with a child’s nutritional needs during the summer months, much like the school’s hot lunch program.  All income-eligible children ages 7 months to 18 years are welcome to attend.

Prevention: The Prevention Program promotes and advocates drug and alcohol prevention needs within Region II of North Dakota.  North Dakota’s Youth Risk Survey contains many alarming statistics involving the youth in our state and region.  The numbers of alcohol and substance abuse and violations continue to grow. Through Community Action’s Prevention Program, communities work together to maintain a unified message regarding the use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco. Learn more about Prevention programs.

Holiday Activities: Each year many area individuals and businesses offer low-income children or families served by Community Action something to look forward to during the holiday season.  Some sponsor a specific family by finding out their ages and needs from Community Action and then donating wrapped gifts for them to open.  Others donate toys, clothing, food baskets, or other items to be distributed throughout Community Action. Community Action receives toys donated through the 97 Kicks FM Toys-for-Tots drive.  These items are displayed so that parents may come and “shop” for their families depending on their needs and likes. Share the spirit of the holiday season and get involved in Community Action’s Holiday Activities.
