If you have your composite class picture we would like to scan it for the website. Thanks. To see the photos go to  Class Photos .

Thanks to Larry Cunningham of Ryder, we now have pictures from 1970 through 2004. We still need class photos of classes before 1951, 1964, 1966, 1968  2005-2008.  We also need 1972 and 1976 because they are damaged.

An interesting website about North Dakota Weather Stations

I just completed listing all of the records for the Hope Lutheran Cemetery on the Ward County Roots / Orlien site.
If you know anyone around the area who may be able to correct or add to the site it would really help. There are many birth and death dates missing and could be spelling errors.
Please let me know what you think of the page.

Makoti News
July 28, 2008

Please get your Makoti News items to Walt Skrainy by Monday afternoon at 726-5767 or email to  zwoman@restel.net. Alternate locations are the Makoti Cafe and the Pioneer Senior Center.

The lead item this week has to be the Makoti Mavericks American Legion baseball team going to the ND State Tournament in LeMoure this year. Everyone in the area is thrilled with the results. I'm know Dean Karna, our Legion Hall of Famer is excited and I suspect the late Terry Petrick, another Hall of Famer will be watching the games from above. Town residents responded generously when the call went out for donations to help with the expenses for gas, lodging and meals. I know I have not seen Makoti's name on the front page of the regional newspapers sports section as much since we moved here in 2000. Let the excitement begin. Many of our citizens plan to travel to the games.
Another first for me was attending my first 100th birthday party.Aunt Doris Smith celebrated her 100th birthday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner. Many of Makoti's Zieman family were in attendance at the party with about 250 present. Aunt Doris is a remarkable woman with many testimonials from family members including great, great grandchildren. She personally thanked everyone for this special event. Aunt Doris was able to be active in the quilting club at her church until this fall before moving into assisted living in Rugby. They say there are two kinds of people, those who give energy and those who take away energy. I came away feeling energized meeting Aunt Doris Smith.
Several area residents earned awards at the recent North Dakota State Fair. Austin Schemfisch won 2nd place in the "Why My Grandparents are the Best" Essay contest sponsored by the ND State Fair. He read his essay at the Seniors Day program in front of 400 people which included grandparents Lue Schenfisch and Byron and Donna Larson as well as many Makoti Seniors. He won a family weekend in Bismarck which includes Raging Bull River Water Park passes, hotel stay and dinner.Loren Quandt's miniature horses, Bil and Ole also finish in the money at the Pony Pull at the State Fair,
We understand that the Ryder Horse Show was a success with good attendance and entrees. They are hoping for another show next year.
The Makoti Homemakers also enjoyed a picnic in the Park for their July meeting.
The Makoti Cafe will be closed Sunday, August 3rd due to the Baptism  of a great grandchild in Center, ND.
The Makoti City Council is set to meet on Monday, August 4th, 7pm in the Fire Hall. All are invited to attend.
Parshall is having a Harvest Fest this weekend, August 2-3. Many great activities are planned for area residents. Also don't forget to sign up for our Threshers Tractor Pull, a new event added to the Trashing Show in October.
The start of school is less than a month away, August 21. The school is still looking to hire a Learning Disabilities teacher. I'm sure many parents are into purchasing school materials and Clothing.
We had some good rain amounts today from thunderstorms passing through the area. Hopefully it will help some of the crops. Being a non farmer I learned another agro fact today that lightning can be of help to the soil as it helps release nitrogen. So many things to learn. Have a great week. GO MAVERICKS.

Young Chuck, moved to Texas and bought a Donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the Donkey. The next day he drove up and said, sorry son,
but I have some bad news, the donkey died. Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.' Chuck said, 'Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.' The farmer said, You can't raffle off a dead donkey!' Chuck said, 'Sure I can Watch me... I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.00.' The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?' Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.' Chuck now works for the government.
